6 Tips to Troubleshoot Your Internet Connection

The ongoing development of smart digital devices such as tablets, smartphones, and laptops and so on requires a stable high-speed Internet connection.

Therefore when you experience some network problems and slow internet connection, you can try the following tips to try to figure out the problem on your own.

1.Perform a Ping test
A ping test will tell you whether your router is connection to the outside world. Although you can use some third-party tools to ping a website you don’t have to use them since Windows has a handy built in utility called Command Prompt. All you have to do is to launch the Command Prompt and type ping + the domain name of the website or its IP address
E.g.ping yahoo.com
Check the result and if you see timed results it means that everything is OK. If the ping command fails try pinging another website. Please note that some websites don’t accept pings. Also, if there are no results at all, it might indicate a problem with the PC or the router.

2. Check the Router Lights
Checking the router’s LED lights is a smart option if you can’t access the online world at all. No lights usually means that the router is either switched off, unplugged or it stopped working completely. If that is the case, switch it back on and wait a little till if completely boots up and the LED lights stabilize. After that try to connect to the internet again.

3. Check Your Status Check whether the router and modem are working properly. Check their LED lights. If the LED lights are not active reboot the modem and router and wait a little and check them again. The status indicators generally tell you whether toe device is working properly. Also, check all the connections and confirm that they are firmly connected to the router and the modem. A loose connection may make you some serious trouble. Also check the ports and that everything is connected to the right port.

4. Try Changing the Channel Generally speaking, your router uses only one of the fourteen available channels to operate. It is normal that they overlap, but the following channels – 1, 6 and 11 never overlap and this is the reason why they are most commonly used. In some cases when the internet connection is unstable, there are chances that you are experiencing some interference. Change the router channel in the router settings page. To login to the router settings page you have to know the default router IP and login details. In most cases the IP is 192.168.1.1 (Never type 192.168.l.l because this is wrong.)

5. Are Your Devices Configured Well?
In case you have Internet access on your PC or laptop but you can’t connect other devices, you should check their network settings.  Check whether they are connected to the right network and that Airplane mode is off. Also, you can restart the router. You will be amazed by the number of issues this simple trick can solve. You can also right-click the network icon and troubleshoot. After it tries and completes several tasks you will be given the possible problem together with an advice how to solve it.

6. Reset Your Router
The last option you should try when you try to solve some network problems is to hard-reset your wireless router. However, this can solve many issues. To do this you have to use a pin or something similar to press and hold the hidden reset button for a few seconds. After you reset the router you can either set it up manually or with the setup CCD that came with the router.

As you can see, these 6 steps can help you resolve most of the network issues the everyday user may experience. Don’t be afraid to try them all, there is nothing really you can actually ruin at this stage. And in case they don’t help feel free to contact the support team of your router manufacturer. We are sure you will find a good solution for your current problem with your network. After all, we all agree that it is worth spending some time trying to fix the problem, than spending an hour or more trying to fix it with the help of the support team.
